2005 was the year that I grudgingly dragged myself into the 21st century, and purchased the "holy trinity" of AV equipment that seems especially suited to us geeks: Topfield 5800, Squeezebox 2, Rio Karma. Re. the Toppy: the feature that has most revolutionised our TV watching habits is chase-play.
