I believe the volume range in 6.5 is exactly what you want. It's fine-grained, 0-100 instead of 0-40, and it's exponential - small adjustments at lower levels and more coarse at higher levels. Just be advised: when upgrading from 6.2/6.3 to 6.5, uninstall first and delete the SlimServer directory.
