Reasons to run Perl code instead of the 'compiled' package on Windows:
If you want to keep up with latest beta releases of SlimServer you can use SVN (TortoiseSVN on Windows is easy to use) and check out a copy of the Perl code from the Slim Devices SVN repository. Then when you want to update, you'll only need to download a handful of files (whichever files have been added or changed since the last time you updated) and it takes only a moment instead of having to download the entire program and unzip or install the whole thing. If you want to do development, you can't do it with the compiled version. You need the Perl files that you can edit and test immediately. Keeping up with the latest changes to the 'stable' branch can have its advantages in reliability. Supposedly tested bug fixes have been checked in to this branch, fixing issues with the last official release. It's no faster. In and of itself, running the Perl version is no more stable or reliable. You can get the same benefits by running nightlies of the compiled exe. -- JJZolx Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30019 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
