What would help them sell more SqueezeBoxes would be to add support for UPnP in the firmware.
You're changing the subject.
You were talking about UPnP, and the fact that this feature would not help them sell more Squeezeboxes.
I just gave my opinion which is that UPnP would be more useful as a client in the Squeezebox firmware.
The OP is talking about a UPnP _server_ integrated into Slimserver.
As I had been playing with a Roku SoundBridge, a SqueezeBox, mt-daap, SlimServer and Gmediaserver, and was disappointed with the Squeezebox only supporting SlimServer instead of being UPnP compatible.
Apart from that, it is my favourite network player (best sound, best design, best user interface, supports WPA....).
But as the server of my network audio player must fit in less than 800kb (my embedded system, a SOHO, has 6Mb of flash and is running Linux), I cannot use SlimServer as it is too big and uses Perl.
So I'm using gmediaserver (it takes less than 300kb, is coded in C, and supports UPnP), so I can use the Roku Soundbridge (but gmediaserver also supports NETGEAR Wireless Digital Music Player, Linksys Wireless-B Music System, Philips Streamium, D-Link DSM-520, Terratec NOXON audio, Pinnacle ShowCenter... as they are all UPnP compatible).
What you're talking about is a UPnP _client_ in squeezebox firmware
Exactly.
which is a completely different feature, and a lot less likely to ever happen, I think.
It is also about UPnP, and a lot more useful IMHO. --Raphael _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
