Your slimserver needs to install as a service. Check by going to Start, Run, then type in 'services.msc' and hit enter. If it is not in this list then do the following. click start click run type in: "C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\slim.exe" -install (make sure you include the quotes and the -install portions) Hit enter, and a window should pop up for up to a minute or so, then disappear. If you want it to start automatically on boot, go back to services.msc and find slimserver. double click it and change it to automatic. Reboot computer.
I just received my squeezebox and needed to do this so it would start up. I found it at http://faq.slimdevices.com I would suggest leaving your firewall on and configuring it so it will accept the slimdevice.
