If it still displays date/time correctly the screen isn't gone. Are you sure the firmware on the slimp3 is 2.2? It is 2.3 on mine and it has been for quite a while. Try an upgrade of the firmware. There's an updater program for slimp3 here http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/firmware/2.3/
