That's a good idea. One more thing you could/should do: disable plugins which could touch the scan process: iTunes, MoodLogic, MusicIP and third party plugins like LazySearch etc. Reduce your system to the bare naked minimum. If you get good results, you can add one component after the other to isolate the problem.
