I've been happily using slimp3 for a long time (rev 1.3 firmware), however my recent upgrade to slimserver 6.5 has caused me all sorts of problems with skipping at the beginning of almost every song. The problem was not the network: my slimp3 runs over a 100Mb/s wired connection and the network is mostly idle.
After some digging, I found the problem is some sort of bad interaction between slim and mysql. Slimserver has run for a long time on the same machine, a slow 1.6GHz PC with 768M of RAM. With ver6.5, the start of every song caused the activity of slim (~70%) and mysqld (~20%) to peg the machine load at 100% long enough to cause the slimp3 buffer to run empty. Its a lousy problem because after a few painful seconds of skipping, the machine load went back down to 10% or less and the rest of the song would play fine. After a LOT of fiddling, I found an easy fix: remove ver6.5 and go back to ver6.2.1 which I still had lying around. Maybe sqlite isn't as good as mysql in some way, but it is good enough and now all is well again. I read the forums for a few hours and didn't see this specific problem with 6.5 discussed. Was it resolved in an overnight update? I'm asking because otherwise I won't be upgrading until I eventually upgrade my server machine ... and I was I hoping that was a long time away. ...Roy -- roydy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ roydy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9091 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30773 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
