This certainly isn't normal. If I select Genre/Jazz (with 91 artists) it takes about 2 seconds to completely load the page. And that is over a remote connection from work. My server runs Suse 10.1 on an AMD Sempron 2800. Webserver forking might help to reduce response time. Enable it in Server settings - Performance. On the same page check the server priority. Giving the server a higher priority could help but I'm not sure it has any effect when used together with webserver forking. I have server priority set to -6 (above normal). Nor sure if that's the default.
