This seems a better test to me than playing > your CD player over it. > > A music library in WAV format and you always defrag your hard drives? > You sound like someone prone to superstition ;) > > Regards, > Peter Old habits die hard since the Intel486 era, disc defrag greatly improve performance ;^) It's true the music library drive does not need defrag as frequently as system disc, maybe once a month but this will check drive integrity as well so it's good PM (sound files are solid but playlist files get rewritten daily by Slimserver) I wanted to make sure datastream not being interrupted due to excessive disc activity since this noise is similar to a skipping CD, I will also try to pay attention to the signal locked light on the DAC (I used the optical connection) for unusual behavior if indeed it's the case. Thanks for the advice. My PC setup: Athlon 900/384MB ram/Raid 0 2x20GB system disc/400GB music disc/Win2000Pro/Slimserver 6.22/10-100mb ethernet/Netgear router/wired SB3
