One other thing, bpa. I see on the mplayer site three similar files to the one you mention, and I'm not sure which I need.
They are: MPlayer-1.0pre8.tar.bz2 MPlayer-1.0pre8.tar.bz2.md5 (tiny) MPlayerOSX-1.0pre8.dmg The first looks nearest to what you describe, but the third does have 'OSX' in it.
