It seems they get verified when imported. You don't have to scan the whole of your music files again. Via the web gui or the remote you can Browse Music Folder to play the music you've just added. Adding the music to your playlist also causes Slimserver to index the music, making it available by genre, artist, album, new music, search etc. There is also a function to Scan Playlists Only which, if you don't have humungous playlists that include most of your music, should be a lot quicker than scanning all your music (although I must say it did not seem to work for me last time I tried to pick up a new playlist in 6.5.1 beta... but it should!).
