Question: what is the minimum upload speed required from my house to
the Internet to stream my MP3 files (VBR ~192 kbps or higher) reliable
to e.g. SoftSqueeze running on another computer connected to the
Internet?

The "higher" is important. If you want 192kbps, 256kbps bandwidth might just be ok. If "higher" means 320kbps, you'll need 512kbps to support _one_ single stream without too many hickups.

But you could profit from slimserver's ability to transcode streams to lower bitrates for certain players: limit the maximum bandwidth in the player settings to eg. 128kbps for your softsqueeze and files will be transcoded on the fly. You'll have reduced quality, but less risk of interruptions due to limited bandwidth.
