iTunes has it's own way of writing gapless information into the MP3 tags. Now it may be using Lame to do the MP3 encoding based on the custom options, but from a Slim POV, gapless playback is only supported if you have used Lame to enocde your MP3's. Try CD-ex or EAC. I've also got DSOTM in my collection and have not noticed any gaps or glitches.
