I do not know about MySQL. To go back to 6.5.0 and completely remove 6.5.1 I had to kill mysqld.exe process, if it helps.
Maybe you should have killed it before reinstalling 6.5.1? But if you're happy with 6.5.0 don't bother upgrading.
