It's working fine on my Mac, OS 10.4.8. No help to you, but it does provide data to compare with. for instance, what version of OS X are you using? Wired or wireless? I've known Safari refuse to recognise localhost. Seems absurd, but it happens. It's worth trying 127.0.0.1:9000 to see if that works. 6.5.1 does require a firmware update.
