I have indeed tried all of the above, but thanks for your suggestions. I suppose the next move is just to take v6.5.1 off entirely (again...)
What was the last version you've been using successfully? Have you ever been on the 6.5.x series before?
When you look at Windows' event log - do you see anything slimserver related? Have you ever tried running the scanner from the command line? What does the log file say? Turn on d_info & d_scan, restart full scan and see what the log says after it finishes.
