There has been discussion about threading for the long term, but it's not in the current scope of 7.0 (see wiki page on this). My personal view is that we can achieve pretty good performance with the current architecture, but need to be aware of it when coding and have enough instumentation to find performance issues - which is where the health pages came from. I'll look to add a bit more to measure async http callbacks.
