Ok, completed the clean removal of Slimserver from both OSX and Windows partitions. Searched drives for evidence of slim*, cache and mysql files and found nothing except those in the Trash that I had deleted. Ran a clean install of 6.5.1 and it still doesn't work.
At this point, I don't know what else I can do other than use 6.5.0 and hope that future releases of slimserver are less problematic.
