It should almost certainly be faster. Slow performance is going to be caused by some "resource" running low. Memory, CPU, Bandwidth, I/O speed, etc. It is possible in software to do things like "increase memory for more caching to cover up slow I/O" or "use CPU time to compress on the fly to reduce bandwidth demands," but eventually there are limits.
A PC has far more CPU and memory than a NAS box. The bandwidth should be the same and the I/O speed should be the same. Using the NAS box as just-a-NAS will decrease I/O speed. It is no longer just a local drive... but then, except when scanning, I/O speed on Slimserver is pretty much irrelevant (well, unless you run low on memory... then it has to swap which brings I/O back, but that is unlikely on a PC). -- snarlydwarf ------------------------------------------------------------------------ snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32962 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
