News flash: Imboden's work-around worked for me: manually start the SlimServerMySQL service and SlimServer in Contol Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Then since it was a new computer , had to hold down left on the remote to get the squeezebox to find a new IP address in order to get it connected to squeezenetwork. I haven't rebooted yet.
