Mark has all points covered, just wanted to add that the functions you
asked about, powering on/off, synching, are all available using the
Nokia770 skin.

The skin itself is a modern browser-based application:
HTML/CSS/Javascript/AJAX. It's built using Perl's Template Toolkit,
which is the heart of how skins are put together for interfacing with
slimserver. Documentation here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SkinDevelopment

The other option is to build a standalone app that communicates with
slimserver through either http or it's CLI. There are several existing
projects that do this, softsqueeze (java), moose (.NET), slimFX (flash)
to name a few. This route may appeal to you if you are comfy in
javaland.

One side note: java does not exist on the Nokia 770 or the newer model
the N800 (which I hear is a big improvement).

cheers,
#!/ben
