Just got off the phone with technical support.
It seems there is definitely something wrong with my SB and/or Remote. 
After unplugging the power supply, you can press and holding the "Add"
button while reconnecting the power to reset the SB to factory
defaults.  This function is independent of the network or Server. 
Since this fails on my unit, the communication between the remote and
SB is suspect.

I'll be sending it to SlimDevices for repair.
I hope this has been helpful for someone out there.
