So after continuing to try everything I could that didn't involve me reaching behind my entertainment center to get at too many cables, I left the squeezebox "playing" for a couple of hours when the jacks miraculously sprang to life and music flowed once more through my speakers. Later in the evening, my wife reported that the music stopped once more while I was gone from the room although it had started again by the time I returned.
Aren't intermittent issues grand :-/ ?
