That message means a firmware upgrade could not be performed (you
requested one by pressing and holding the brightness button). When your
not connect to a server the firmware should not try to upgrade, it's a
separate bug.

The WOL will only work if you have been connected to your slimserver,
not SqueezeNetwork. How do you exit SqueezeNetwork to  wake your
slimserver?

I wonder if this is not a case of WOL not working, but an interaction
between WOL and using SqueezeNetwork in the firmware. A detailed list
of steps to reproduce would be very useful.
