If I understand your suggestion, I would end up with double copies of
each of the songs.
It seems that the a key point of playlists is to avoid multiple copies
of song files.

Here is my thinking on this:

If I have created a playlist made up entirely of songs on my pc by a
particular artist, the logical place to see that in Slim Server is
under Albums...Artist.

If I come home from work and feel like listening to music by, say...
Garth Brooks, I go to Artists...Garth Brooks and look through what I
have of his music. If I have a playlist with my favorites of his songs,
this seems like a very logical place for that to be listed.

Why have to go to playlists to see that collection?

It would seem to me that the developers at Slim Devices could find a
way to attach an Artist attribute to the playlist so that it would be
displayed under the Artist's name.

No big deal, just seems like a good way to do this type of thing.
