If you resize the coverart to 32x32 then reduce it to monochrome using something like a floyd-steinberg dither, you get ok results.. I had a tinker with this ages ago, but never really got anywhere other than stressed with perl.. :-) Actually I seem to remember 48x32 giving quite good results.. Some covers come out looking dreadful though..
