...and worked out that my SB wasn't working because the wife had switched off the socket the Homeplug network widget was plugged into when she was using the hoover.
Have solved that one blindingly obvious gaff, I can confirm the I now have SS, SB and Vista all playing quite happily together... ....BUT....
