CatBus, thanks for giving me the impetus to try to debug this issue.... Encoding is Apple Lossles, sample size 16 bit, sample rate 44.1kHz via iTunes (iPod is still used in the household), bit rate varies per track from ~200-1000kbps+ CBR, as reported by slimserver.
Various version of iTunes used to encode, over the years. Have had to tweak the COMPOSER tag to get slimserver to display properly (as per other threads in this forum) and have had to not let iTunes get it's own coverart (as those don't get diplayed propely in slimserver I have found). AFAIK SqueezeBox can't handle ALAC so set slimserver options to transcode to FLAC.
