There are known issues that can cause this, some involving artwork. Try running the scanner from the command prompt like so: "c:\program files\slimserver\server\scanner.exe" --wipe --d_scan --d_import <musicfolder> replace <musicfolder> with the location you have for your music. This will spit out a continual update of the scan progress which will hopefully narrow down which point in the scan is causing the crash. It may be a single file, which you can remove and then complete the scan.
