As I'd hoped in my earlier post, I collected my all-black SB3 in person from Ripcaster on the way home from work and it's up and running perfectly. BTW, it has a Logitech logo :)
I think the power supply is different too. At least it's not the same as I remember when I borrowed an older SB3 from a friend. His had the old-style remote though, so maybe things have moved on in the power supply area too.
