I also tried re-installing quicktime and itunes with no success. I am back to all AAC not working - just loud hiss/static.
Interestingly I get the same problem running slimserver (6.5.2/1) on different machines. My Mac Mini and my Dual G5 box. Help other mac users. Are others seeing this.
