Install NetStumbler to see what channels your neighbors are using. Usually 1 or 11 is safe. Sometimes 6 is safe. Sometimes they're all taken, and then you'll have to go with the weakest interfering signal, antenna modifications, asking your neighbors to change their settings, etc. But until you know what's out there, you'll never have any idea.
Also watch out for cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency (new ones are 5.8GHz, really old ones are 900MHz). Experiment with different placements for your wireless router (higher is usually better--on top of a bookshelf perhaps). What sort of router is it? (B or G?) How many other wireless devices do you have in your house? Etc, etc. All of these factors can lead to bad connections. -- CatBus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36634 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
