If artistsort is unset, it defaults to artist. So if you have: Clapton: ARTIST=Eric Clapton ARTISTSORT=Claption, Eric and Mangione: ARTIST=Chuck Mangione
Then, yes, you will see that behavior. Solution is to decide if you want to use artistsort or not... which would mean updating tags.
