I am not an expert, but a thought springs to mind. Are you sure that
your hearing loss is the same across the frequency band? If its the
outer ear that has taken most damage it might only occur with those
frequencies that are transmitted by the hammer and anvil. 

You might find that a digital hearing aid might help as it could be
tuned to your problem.
