Are both devices wireless? Wiring at least one of them to the router is the first thing you should do when experiencing wireless bandwidth issues. It's usually easiest to wire the server, particularly with the Qnap because it doesn't have to be anywhere - you don't need constant physical access to it. It's best to locate it near your router and wire it.
