WiMAX will happen, but the standards making process is slow. See all the hype about 802.11N, which is at least a year away from being a standard (ignoring that vendors have been selling stuff that claims to be compatible for a year or more). Ethernet over power lines works, at some scale. And if the power companies did it, offering differing rates for power at different times, it would save a ton of money and clean the air. But they have a huge installed base, and setting rates is more political than economic. > I'll believe it when I can actually buy equipment at my local big box > retailer. That is *the* indication that its hit mass market. I look for an earlier sign, when the parts are available on Digikey or Mouser. That's when engineers can buy parts to build into prototypes. Give me Cat6 over wireless anytime possible. -- Pat http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/slimsoftware.html _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
