Just sounds like a frustrated user rather than a troll. If you read carefully, he's right. Not about the obvious flame-bait comments, but rather that Slim is an advanced product for advanced end users. It is not a product for a novice to set up nor to use day to day. Not yet anyway.
As far as I know there's no support for UPNP servers with the Squeezeboxes. So that means you can't take an off-the-shelf UPNP NAS and have it work with SB3. You need something to either install Slimserver on or that already comes with Slimserver installed. IMO, every consumer-NAS product out there seems to be rather inferior. Slow processors, very slow disk access and some of them no more power-wise than a small general-purpose computer anyway. My solution, though not the cheapest, is still to use a Mac mini with a big disk under it in a matching enclosure. Then you can also have all the niceties provided by iTunes with a very easy and straight-forward installation procedure. It's as easy as installing the current software can get anyway. -- MelonMonkey Bruno *'Twisted Melon - Fine Mac OS Software' (http://twistedmelon.com) | 'mira - Personal Control for your Apple Remote' (http://twistedmelon.com)* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MelonMonkey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8466 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37600 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
