Short answer: "Yes." Long answer: it depends.
In most cases, yes, the SB will connect directly to the remote server (much like it does with SN, keeping the connection for the rasdio open, while also keeping a connectio to the server open for control functions). Slimserver will pass it a URL, and the SB will go fetch it. In the case of adjusting the buffering, however, SS will proxy it. And of course if it has to transcode, it will proxy for that (ie, AlienBBC).
