I've been battling intermittent poor performance on my SB. Typically sometime in the evening for an hour or so, my SB's performance will drop.
During the day if I run a 5000kbps test I get a constant 100%, then out of the blue in the evenings this can drop and if I try and play music I get stuttering etc. I thought this might be down to my wireless network suffering interference, but twice last night when I was suffering from poor performance, I rebooted the PC in question and immediately ran tests again to find I then had 100% performance again. I monitored the SB all day... Every 2hrs from 9:30am to 9:30pm I ran a 5000kbps test and got this sort of result:- < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 0 : 0% < 75 : 0 : 0% < 80 : 0 : 0% < 85 : 0 : 0% < 90 : 0 : 0% < 95 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 60 :100% ################################################## max : 100.000000 min : 100.000000 avg : 100.000000 Every test gave 100%... Then at 10:15pm I was playing some music and noticed sluggish performance and did another test:- < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 1 : 1% < 75 : 3 : 3% # < 80 : 30 : 33% ################ < 85 : 44 : 48% ####################### < 90 : 11 : 12% ##### < 95 : 3 : 3% # < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 90.792839 min : 63.777778 avg : 81.639821 Signal Strength < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 3 : 14% ###### < 60 : 6 : 27% ############# < 70 : 11 : 50% ######################### < 80 : 2 : 9% #### < 90 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 71.000000 min : 44.000000 avg : 58.590909 I connect the SB via a direct cable to the router (instead of wireless) and the test gave 100%. Returned it to wireless and the performance dropped again. I then rebooted the PC running slimserver and immediately ran a test for 5000kbps:- < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 0 : 0% < 75 : 0 : 0% < 80 : 0 : 0% < 85 : 0 : 0% < 90 : 0 : 0% < 95 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 197 :100% ################################################## max : 100.000000 min : 100.000000 avg : 100.000000 Signal Strength < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 16 : 73% #################################### < 80 : 6 : 27% ############# < 90 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 71.000000 min : 62.000000 avg : 66.409091 However, within a few minutes we were then back at:- 19-Sep 10:43 - 5000 < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 1 : 2% # < 75 : 0 : 0% < 80 : 21 : 44% ##################### < 85 : 17 : 35% ################# < 90 : 8 : 17% ######## < 95 : 1 : 2% # < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 91.414141 min : 62.017167 avg : 81.371779 Signal Strength < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 3 : 23% ########### < 70 : 8 : 62% ############################## < 80 : 2 : 15% ####### < 90 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 71.000000 min : 58.000000 avg : 62.461538 Rebooted PC again, and:- 19-Sep 10:49 - 5000 < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 0 : 0% < 75 : 0 : 0% < 80 : 0 : 0% < 85 : 0 : 0% < 90 : 0 : 0% < 95 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 51 :100% ################################################## max : 100.000000 min : 100.000000 avg : 100.000000 Signal Strength < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 13 : 87% ########################################### < 80 : 2 : 13% ###### < 90 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 0 : 0% >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 70.000000 min : 62.000000 avg : 65.733333 How can rebooting the PC seemingly aid/solve performance (twice in a row)? Could it be SlimServer at fault here? Surely rebooting a PC wouldn't affect the routers wireless performance? The machine in question is a Shuttle SN45G with 512meg of ram and an Athlon 3200+ processor. -- NeilF ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NeilF's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13059 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38526 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
