I believe there's a site out there that resells older PCs coming off corporate leases at very low prices.
Although I've heard of people running SS on P2s, you probably want PIII or equivalent, 600 MHz or better. The more RAM the better, 256 MB if you're running Windows XP, SS and nothing else, 512 if you're running other apps or for a safety margin. In a minimal SS, you probably don't need more than 512 MB unless you want to run Vista. When PCs get this cheap, the OS cost starts to represent a larger and larger percentage of the total cost - in this case, it would probably be 50% or more. When I was browsing that site, I can't remember if they came with properly-licensed Windows. If they don't, you may want to consider Linux, which is less resource-intensive anyway, plus SS runs faster and better on it. It doesn't make much sense buying a used PC for $200 and paying $100 for the OS to go on it, particularly if all you'll be using it for is SS. -- Mark Lanctot 'Sean Adams' Response-O-Matic checklist, patent pending!'
