Did you check the brightness settings? You can just hit the brightness button on the remote, but remember you have to have the Squeezebox in the mode that you want the brightness set for that to work, so there are several states you have to set it in. Better to look in the player settings and make sure none of them are zero. If that's not it, I'd recommend emailing support. they would know best if or where you could get a new one.
