When I was on Windows XP with a 2.8 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM, I could scan
~100 GB of music (3500-some-odd tracks, mostly FLAC) in about 5
minutes. This is a clear-and-rescan scan though, but it actually
doesn't take that much longer than a look-for-new-and-changed rescan.

Now that I'm on Ubuntu Linux with a Core 2 Duo E6600 and 2 GB of RAM,
136 GB of music, 4500 tracks, takes 3 minutes. It's probably not the
hardware improvement, it's that scanning on Linux is faster. Even
scanning this collection over my LAN takes about 7 minutes.
