My guess is that your wireless link is experiencing interference which is limiting the bandwidth available (FLAC requires a lot more capacity to stream than something like mp3). To prove (or disprove) this theory try hooking the SB up with a cable rather than wireless for a while and see if you still have the problem. If not, then it's the wireless.
In terms of fixing it, there are a few things to try. Can you reposition the base station/router to be closer to the SB? Can you switch the channel it is operating on to one with less interference?
