My MINI is stuck in a closet with power, CAT5 and an external drive attached to it. No see, no hear, no mess. I access it using Timbuktu Pro, but that's not really critical to use. Even adding music to the external drive is a piece of cake as I mount it via the network to my G5 and rip from there.
Did you try checking the box that says WAKE FOR ETHERNET ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS?
