Well now I feel bad if my post caused any hard feelings. At the time I just thought "MP3 playback is broken for an already-broken format, is this news?" Since MP3s aren't full-bitrate anyway, I view them as a compromise and it doesn't concern me if the SB decoder mangles it a bit - it's already "mangled" to some degree. If it's quality I want, I'll use FLAC. I guess your assertion is that the MP3 decoder in the SB is further (and unnecessarily) mangling MP3s. Fair enough. What's most interesting is a comparison to an approach another poster took a few months ago when he asserted that the SB sounded differently after pausing/unpausing. Despite repeated requests, he never provided proof, he only asserted that "his friend could hear it, and his friend is a researcher at a university, so it must be true." When asked for a double-blind test, he said without hesitation that the effect could be identified 100% of the time by 100% of the people who tried - statistically very improbable and strong evidence he never actually did any tests. This wasn't reproducible by anyone else but him and his "extremely high resolution" playback gear - which of course couldn't be exactly duplicated by anyone else in the world. Not proof enough to investigate and he gave Sean a bit of grief because Sean didn't want to investigate such unproven claims. You have worked hard at this and provided proof - Sean is very willing to look at it. This is good, it means in that other thread that Sean was telling the truth when he said he will investigate technical bugs if he could find adequate proof. I still don't care that MP3 playback is broken, as with many on this forum. It's nothing personal but I won't be listening to the test files - I don't care. I do appreciate you worked hard at it though. But don't feel discouraged, your hard work is being looked at by the people that can actually change things. -- Mark Lanctot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40409 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
