Can you give us a bit more information - in particular, what OS are you running on Windows, Mac or Linux (and if so, what flavour)? Also, how did you install MIP as a service - using the instructions 'here' (http://www.musicip.com/mixer/server.jsp) (so you're running headless) or some other way?
I'm guessing you may be on Windows from the way you talk about services - I would first check the dependency is working, if you shut down the MIP service, does Slimserver also shut down? Also, what about running MIP as a service which automatically starts up on boot, but Slimserver as an application on logon? May not be suit you if you have more than one user account though. Stop the Slimserver service, right click SlimTray (the little icon in the bottom right of the screen) and change to "run at login". Then reboot (checking that Slimserver isn't still running as a service after you've done so).
