While this principle is of course sound, it remains the case that if you bought the Mk3 at a time when everyone else knew that the Mk4 (twice as good and half the price) was coming out next week, you'd be pretty miffed. So its a fair question to ask, but OP shouldn't be surprised if no-one from Logitech/SD answers. I will just point out that if you buy direct you have a 30-day return period so you are covered for at least that long.
