Agreed with Fletch - your problem is almost certainly with the Denon, the SB always outputs on optical, coax and analog all the time. You need to decide which "input" you want to map the SB to - eg "CD": then go to the input mapping menu and tell the Denon that the CD input is coming in to coax 2 or whatever.
You might also want to consider that the DAC inside the SB is probably better than the one built into the Denon, so unless you're into the processed modes (in which case it will digitise anyway) you might find the sound quality better with an analog link. Then select "Direct" (as opposed to "Stereo") mode.
