I take it you mean that both of your APs have the same SSID (name) Sorry, that tends to be how most wifi clients behave.. once they associate to an AP, they like to lock on to them until they can't see it anymore, and then they go looking for a new one.
Here's my idea: Option 1: Rename one of them based on locality.. (foo-upstairs foo-downstairs, whatever) Option 2: If you want to be able to roam with a laptop with the same SSID for both you could create a second "Virtual AP" on one of them and associate the Squeezeboxes that are close to them to the virtual. This will probably require a linux-hack firmware like ddwrt or openwrt.
